Marie and I lived in Mexico for three exciting years. Consequently we learned a fair amount of Spanish. Also I carried my Spanish/English dictionary everywhere we went.

On our way down-island I borrowed Marie’s little typewriter to make some notes for the book. I did this on my lap in our forward quarters in Water Lily. I am so glad I did this; the notes sure came in handy much later. Here is a picture of my setup:

A flint with every book I sell.

While my supply of flints lasts, I will include one, along with A Certificate of Authenticity in each book I sell. And, I have about 100 books

on hand. So let’s go folks…please help me out here!

I guess I’ve already told you that Marie and I are in our upper 80s. We find that it is becoming difficult to keep up with the general maintenance of our house. So, we are looking at “Assisted Living” places. If you’re not familiar with them here is how they work. For a monthly fee, you get lodging, all your meals (menu to choose from), entertainment from time to time, etc. Marie and I have visited some very nice places, but are still checking them out.

Veterans, if they qualify, get over two thousand dollars a month toward their rent!!! I have an appointment on the 20th with the V.A. to see if I qualify with my War Two experience. . Let’s hope so!

Your old man had a blood transfusion

Well, my doctor said that with all the blood I’ve lost, I was anemic and set me up for a blood transfusion at the hospital.

This was a new experience for me, and it was an all day affair. I reported in at 9;30 as requested, and finished up at 4;30 and could finally go home. Whew!

Now then, let’s change the subject dramatically! As you folks may or may not know, I have written a book…”Incredible Virgin Island Adventure…A true story” Literary Agents were not interested in trying to get it published because I am an old man who has written one book and is not likely to write any more books. So, I recently, took it back to my book printers and had 100 more copies reprinted.

Now I have to sell them. And that’s where you folks come in…hopefully.

Everyone who has bought a book has emailed me back that they have loved it. Here is what one buyer recently wrote to me in an email: “George—Received the book yesterday and read a few chapters last night. I enjoy your conversational writing style. It reads like I’m just sitting in a room with you, listening to you tell your story.”

A very sick old man

One solid indication that I am very sick, is when my urologist cancels my January 26 appointment, clears the deck, then schedules me to come in tomorrow instead!

Wow, how bad can this be? Guess I’ll find out tomorrow.

Now to bring you folks up on what’s happening. On January the fifth, my birthday, I was in the hospital undergoing what I think the urologists call a “probe” Under anesthesia, a gizmo is inserted in the penis and a tiny camera looks around to see what’s going on. In my case, some polyps were found, biopsies were taken, and some burning was done.

Then a catheter and urine discharge bag was secured, and I could come home. All of this was done because of the large amount of blood in my urine. This has not improved yet.

Marie is a real plant nut.

I married a real plant nut. When I first met her and went to the apartment she shared with her sister, Ruth, plants were everywhere…on all the window sills, tables…refrigerator…you name it…if it would hold plants …they were there.

So when we had Sandcastle, plants and flowers were her thing. She particularly liked hibiscus plants. Now, with that background, you can see why she made this greeting.

Blood where it should not be!

Yesterday, I woke up with blood in my urine. This wasn’t just pink…it was brilliant red and frightened me. Our doctor ordered a Cat Scan to see what was wrong.

The scan didn’t hurt, but was very uncomfortable. I will tell you tomorrow what the scan revealed.

Our fuel tank on Water Lily developed a leak

Our diesel fuel tank began a slow leak. The tank was built to conform to the curved hull and the leak was on the hull side, so I couldn’t get to it for a repair.

This all took place as we sailed near Martinique, so we stopped there and had a new tank built.

As you approach a foreign country, it’s normal to fly a courtesy flag of that country at your spreaders. Martinique is French, so Marie raised the French courteous flag.

It took about two weeks for the tank to be built and installed, and it rained almost steadily the whole time!

I had brought a small chess set from home, so Les and I played a lot of chess to kill time. Les and I were evenly matched and had some exciting games.

Learning something about Facebook.

I have used Microsoft Word 2000 and am very comfortable with it. When I leave it for something else I am lost.

So you can imagine how lost I am in Facebook. Well, I bought the book, “Facebook—The Missing Manual.

I looked up “Friends” because I wanted to learn something about it…how it worked, etc.

Here is what it said….while having a zillion “friends” is considered a status symbol on My Space, it’s not on Facebook. On Facebook, the goal of friends is to put together a manageable list of people you actually know—and actually care about keeping up with.

So don’t feel bad folks when I don’t Confirm you as a friend. It’s just that I don’t know you from Adam!
